Its not like everest Bc where theres a whole village and possible trips to tea houses and constant supplies being portered in - life in k2 BC is like living on the moon. both requiring a month or so of high alt living and hard slogging to get sufficient time at 6500m in. its too steep and hazardous to acclimatize on so many people do that elsewhere then arrive at k2 exhausted. Go with the intention of experiencing maybe the most enigmatic mountain on earth. if thats your goal then either pick another mountain, or consider it may take 5 trips to even open the window of opportunity.

full stop.Įven the worlds finest climbers understand this to be unrealistic. Ive been on k2 (cessen route, no summit) heres what i think:ĭont go with the intention of summitting.
the equivalent of andy k's pyschovertical site but for high altitude stuff? I would appreciate any advice or any pointers in the right direction to good websites. I would also want to do it without oxygen. I have no worries as to technical ability or fitness as I can train both of these during the run-up to the climb (although obviously it is going to be a hell of a lot harder at altitude) im just worried that my lack of experience at altitude will slow me down. Obviously I'm going to need some experience on an 8000er before i attempt it but will one previous 8000er ascent be enough to prepare me? I doubt I will be able to afford more than one expedition before hand. I dont really know a lot about high altitude mountaineering and have no idea where to even start in preperation.įirst off, is this a realistic goal? i am willing to break the bank in prep for this but unfortunately the bank isnt very big to start off with. I have no previous experience in the greater ranges and the highest ive been is the top of mont blanc. Ok, so I have potentially been offered a place on an attempt on k2 for a massively reduced price to take place in either 2015 or 2016.
